Design and implementation of gas networks for hospitals
Woikoski Medical offers domestic expertise based on long experience in healthcare solutions. We design, implement and maintain hospital gas networks safely and efficiently – from start to finish.
How to design a gas network for a hospital?
Design starting points
The core of the gas network is the gas hub, which distributes the gas to the network and the points of use. The source of gas can be cylinders, cylinder batteries or a LPG tank. Points of use are located in patient care and hospital processes where medical gases are required.
Planning always involves mapping:
- Annual gas consumption and types of gases required
- System sizing and possible expansion needs
- Number and location of sampling points
- Piping materials and sizing
- Safety and maintenance requirements
If necessary, the plans will be supported by PI diagrams, level drawings and equipment lists.
Technical design and calculation
The calculation phase defines the network hardware and ensures that all components support the system requirements. Particular attention is paid to flow rates, pressure drops and variations in operating conditions to ensure that the gas supply operates reliably under all conditions.
Gas centre and supply systems
A separate supply system is designed for each type of gas. The location and serviceability of the gas centre are key factors to ensure high availability and safety.
Distribution pipelines
The design of distribution pipelines takes into account structural solutions, pipe support, pressure management and maintenance. Properly selected materials and sizing ensure the longevity and cost-effectiveness of the network.
Risk management and documentation
A risk assessment is always carried out before installation work and, if necessary, TRA documentation is prepared. Woikoski Medical provides clear component-specific specifications to support transparency and safe implementation. A project plan is prepared for each project and all work steps are documented as agreed.
Why is the medical gases network worthwhile?
A well-designed medical gases network improves hospital reliability and patient safety.
The network can:
- Reduces the need to transport bottles
- Reduction of high-pressure objects in the working environment
- Uninterrupted gas supply also during cylinder/battery replacement
- Continuous gas supply even when the primary side cylinders are empty
- Efficient use of the contents of bottles
- More detailed information on gas consumption
